The Latest Bedroom Décor Trends We Love

Posted by Lauren Levin on

We spend about one third of our lives either sleeping or trying to sleep. That arguably makes your bedroom the most important room in your home, both for comfort and design. Looking for bedroom décor ideas can be a unique process because your bedroom is one room where guests rarely go. That means you’re free to make it look and function in a way that makes sense for you.

Whether you live with roommates and spend a lot of time in your bedroom or you have it designated as a sleeping-only space, it’s important that your bedroom reflects your sense of style. Here are some of our favorite bedroom décor trends — and how you can make them your own.

Putting comfort first

Bedroom décor trends come and go, but comfort will never go out of style. Your bed is the focal point of your bedroom, so make it your top priority. After choosing the right bed frame (statement headboards are having a moment), move on to bedding. For maximum comfort, think soft, lush fabrics, lots of pillows and extra layers.

Since getting a good night’s sleep is so important, splurging on quality sheets and pillows is actually an investment in future you’s health and productivity. Zen vibes are what we’re after here, so lean towards calming colors and soft lighting. Use a lamp instead of a harsh overhead light and add an essential oil diffuser for calming scents that will lull you to sleep.

Eclectic art

Have a big empty wall you don’t know what to do with? You could get a piece of statement art and call it a day, but with a gallery wall, you can pick out multiple pieces you love. If you want bedroom wall décor ideas that will evolve with you, a gallery wall is the way to go. Experiment by switching pieces in and out and changing up the configuration so it always reflects your style.

To start your gallery wall, you’ll need:

-The right frames: Choose all black for a streamlined, cohesive look or mix it up with a variety of ornate designs from a second-hand store.

-A theme: When you’re shopping for art, look for prints, paintings and photos that connect in some way. It could be based on color scheme, artist or just an overall story you’re trying to tell.

-An installation method: Renter-friendly options can include adhesive strips, Velcro or even Monkey hooks. You could also opt to lean art on various ledges.

Bold colors and prints

Some prefer their bedrooms to be neutral and calming while others love to wake up to a bold, bright print to start their day with a splash. If you spend a lot of time in your bedroom, it’s only natural that you’ll want it to feel like you. Some options for moving away from neutrals and incorporating bold colors and prints are:

-Printed bedding: Your bed is already the focal point, so why not choose a fun print for your bedspread and build the rest of the room around that.

-Bright accent wall: Paint one wall your favorite bright color and keep the other three neutral. Renter-friendly peel-and-stick wallpaper can also help you incorporate your stylish bedroom wall décor ideas without violating the terms of your lease.

-Area rug: Rugs come in all shapes, sizes, colors and prints. Browse RugsUSA, Ruggable and even Etsy to find something that matches your style.

-Throw pillows: If you love bold prints but don’t want to do anything too permanent, focus on throw pillows and throw blankets. They’re more affordable and easier to switch out than wall décor and bedding.

Bring nature indoors

Spending time outdoors is essential for our mental health. That’s why one of our favorite bedroom décor trends is to draw inspiration from nature. Here are a few ways you can bring the outdoors in:

-Indoor plants: Houseplants represent growth and peace, so why wouldn’t you want them in your bedroom? Before you buy, just be sure to research which types of plants will thrive in your lighting conditions.

-Floral prints: If you can’t do real plants, prints are the next best thing! From art to bedding, florals bring pops of color and touches of nature.

-Flowy curtains: Ditch the blackout blinds and opt for something a little airier like sheer curtains. Waking up to natural light in the morning can be a game changer for your circadian rhythms.

-Indoor/outdoor furniture: Rattan and wicker furniture is timeless enough to follow you through your changing décor preferences. Choose versatile and functional pieces like a rattan bookshelf or a wicker chair or side table.
