Patterns With a Purpose: Our Prints Designed for the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer

Posted by Ava Kuhn on

Hope Blooms and Hope Blooms Pink are the latest in our lineup of patterns that support the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. Our designs tied to the Foundation have always been our very favorites, exuding hope and raising awareness of our commitment to fund research and find a cure.

These patterns have helped make so many breakthroughs and discoveries happen. Through carrying our colors, making donations and attending special events like the Vera Bradley Foundation for  Breast Cancer Classic, you've helped create an amazing impact. Together, we have raised more than $37.5 million for critical, life-saving research!

The pursuit of a world without breast cancer has inspired so much tenacity and connection. Walk with us as we discover the hope-filled history of the Foundation ... and the special patterns that have been designed along the way.

The loss of our colleague and dear friend Mary Sloan was the inspiration for the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. Compassionate and caring, fun and full of humor, she was co-founder Barbara Bradley Baekgaard's college roommate and later joined the company as one of our first sales consultants. Mary's passion and talent were welcomed by all, but too soon she received her diagnosis, followed by treatment that was unsuccessful in curing her breast cancer. Her loss is still felt today and has inspired us to continue to grow the Foundation.

In 1993, our co-founders began contributing a portion of our profits toward research for a cure.

We hosted our first Vera Bradley Classic Golf Tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana (it's since become the largest amateur women's golf charity tournament in the country!).

The Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer was established.

We launched our first breast cancer awareness print, Return to Happiness.

The Vera Bradley Chair in Oncology began research at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.

$1.2 million was contributed to our team with another $2 million pledged.

We started our annual girls' night out that celebrates a shared commitment to find a cure. Hundreds of women have attended the event here at our own HQ, enjoying a behind-the-scenes brand experience and fundraising for the Foundation.

Our incredible team began work at the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research Laboratories.

The Indiana Institute of Personalized Medicine opened at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center. Monogrammed Medicine is focused on targeting the cancer’s unique genetics to develop new treatments.

“The most profound difference today is women diagnosed with breast cancer are more likely to live, and that’s because we’re able to get the right therapy to the right woman at the right time.”
— Kathy D. Miller, M.D.

The Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research was established at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.

"There just aren't any mechanisms for that early funding, and that's where the Foundation makes all the difference in the world."

— Anna Maria Storniolo, M.D.

Breakthroughs and discoveries continue to happen everyday — through their dedicated research, our team continues to develop and dramatically improve therapies for some of the most difficult-to-treat types of breast cancer, including triple negative breast cancer.

"We are not in this fighting alone. There is such a larger community that joins us with this."
— Kathy D. Miller, M.D.

Our latest print, Hope Blooms, features painterly bouquets on a classic gray ground so that you can show support and share hope season after season.

"The bright blooms signify hope while the delicate ribbons throughout tie back to this print's important cause."
— Lindsay, print designer

Strewn with vibrant flowers and feminine ribbons, Hope Blooms Pink makes a powerful (and ever so pretty) statement.

"The pink version signifies strength in the signature color of the fight against breast cancer."
— Lindsay, print designer
