At Vera Bradley, we love to make women’s lives better. This common thread drives our purpose and fuels our passion, from the products we design to how we give back. It’s at the heart of every organization we partner with, too — each one uniquely supports women and children, creating positive ripple effects nationwide and around the world.
Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer
The loss of our dear friend and colleague, Mary Sloan, in 1993, was the inspiration for the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. By celebrating her life and the lives and legacies of all who braved the disease, we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating a community of hope around breast cancer. Our gracious coworkers, business partners, customers and friends share our passion for finding a cure, and together we have raised more than $34.6 million to support critical breast cancer research.
Our team at the Vera Bradley Foundation Center for Breast Cancer Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana, collaborates with researchers and leads clinical trials nationwide. They are focused on developing and dramatically improving therapies for some of the most difficult-to-treat types of breast cancer, including triple-negative breast cancer. Their progress on Monogrammed Medicine is leading to promising discoveries in diagnosis, treatment and prevention. Eighty-one cents of every dollar donated to the Foundation goes to breast cancer research.learn more
New Hope Girls
When we were first introduced to New Hope Girls, we were so inspired by their story and mission: Providing light and life to girls and women arising from the darkest and most difficult places. After traveling to the Dominican Republic to meet the women behind the nonprofit, we knew we had to get involved.
We sponsored New Hope Girls’ new workshop in 2016, helping them build a safe and efficient sewing workspace that has become a sacred place for women to grow as artisans and as individuals. 2020 marks the second year we collaborated with New Hope Girls to launch a special collection of handcrafted styles on International Women’s Day. Additionally, 2020 saw the launch of The 1982 Backpack. A portion of the proceeds from this purposeful pack directly benefits New Hope Girls.learn more
Blessings in a Backpack
Another charity that quickly captured our hearts with its mission and impact is Blessings in a Backpack. This national organization mobilizes communities to provide food to school children in need. In 2019, we donated 50,000 brand-new backpacks to Blessings in a Backpack and hosted star-studded packing events throughout the country to bring awareness and support. We also pledged to match your donations up to $50,000 and were able to present a grand total of $136,000 to Blessings in a Backpack on Giving Tuesday. In the spring of 2020, we released two special styles with gold medalist Shawn Johnson East that support Blessings in a Backpack with every purchase made.
This fall, Blessings in a Backpack will remain committed to providing for children everywhere — wherever and however they go back to school. You can help by making a donation. Receive an exclusive Bag Charm (a $20 value) with your gift of $10 or more.Learn More
Vera Bradley + Autism Speaks®
Autism is a cause that hits close to home for many of us. Our partnership with Autism Speaks® was sparked by a desire to help girls and women everywhere living with autism. In particular, a bright-eyed 10-year-old girl named Kenzi, who is the daughter of one of our associates (and one of our favorite models ever!)
Autism Speaks® is a national organization dedicated to promoting solutions across the spectrum and throughout the life span for individuals with autism and their families. It works to advance research into causes and better treatments for autism spectrum disorders and related conditions both through direct funding and collaboration. We recently collaborated with Autism Speaks® on a Plush Throw Blanket that helped us make a donation to the charity. You can help by purchasing one of these special styles!Shop Now
Free Mom Hugs
We've always looked to make the world a brighter place. As a brand rooted in empathy, thoughtfulness and kindness, we believe in coming together to spread love. That's why working with Free Mom Hugs was such a perfect match.
Founded by moms, Free Mom Hugs works as an advocate for affirmation and equality for all by providing resources, education, support (and yes, hugs!) across the country.
This June, we launched our Love All Tote, a colorful take on our namesake Vera Tote that sports the universal symbol for inclusion: the rainbow. We also made a $15,000 donation to Free Mom Hugs in support of their inspirational work.Learn More
American Nurses Foundation
As the COVID-19 crisis continues to affect all of us, our hearts remain with all of you and all those on the front lines. The nurses working tirelessly and bravely throughout this crisis are our heroes. These remarkable caregivers are also our family members, our friends, our longtime customers and the heart of the Vera Bradley community.
To support them, we made a commitment in April to tie a portion of proceeds from our non-medical cotton mask sales to support the American Nurses Foundation's Coronavirus Response Fund for Nurses, which provides direct financial assistance to nurses; supports their physical and mental health, today and in the future; drives national advocacy and ensures nurses everywhere have access to the latest science-based information to protect themselves, prevent infection and care for those in need.
In August, we were honored to present the American Nurses Foundation with a donation of $633,636.01! Thank you for helping us make this worthy gift happen.
We strive to be a leader in the environmental, social and governance issues that matter most to our customers, associates, shareholders and communities. We invite you to learn more about our progress and our plans going forward.read the report
